Buildings Were Under Construction From an Earthquake a Few Years Before
16 years before the eruption, Pompeii experienced a powerful earthquake that caused widespread destruction throughout the neighboring cities. Ironically, some buildings were still under construction from the earthquake when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD.
