Mount Vesuvius Erupted for 18 Hours
For 18 hours the volcano spewed extreme heat, ash and volcanic rock down the mountain side and into the atmosphere, violently killing the people of the ancient cities. It is believed that most people died within the first 12 hours of the eruption.
