Phallic Sculptures Decorated the City
In ancient Pompeii, a phallus was a symbol of good luck and today many stone images are found erected throughout the city. As the ancient people believed their world was inhabited by demons, a statue of a phallus placed over your door was believed to ward off anything demonic.
