A Deal Too Good to Be True
My father was a health and hygiene officer while in the Air Force back in the early 1950s. While stationed in England, he and the rest of the other health and hygiene officers went to a pub for lunch – they were advertising a tomato soup and sandwich special. The food came out and everyone began to eat when one officer said, “Mmm the soup is nice and meaty.” It quickly sank in that tomato soup is not supposed to have meat. They dig around the soup to find well-cooked cockroaches in the soup. They stormed the kitchen to find the soup below a cold water pipe.
