What validates the theory that Big Edie wanted to isolate Little Edie as much as possible from the outside world in a manipulative way, is the report of one of the duo’s relative Eva Beale. Eva said: “I think it was a safe haven for her always to be with her mother. They had such a wonderful bond that nobody could break.” Little Edie ended all of her letters to her mother with the sign off, “With ladles and ladles of kisses, loves & hugs – your ever precious, ever loving and ever darling and kissable Edes.”
