The first problem that would chain events of disaster together was some paperwork.
Abadiya in Egypt told them their certificates were out of date and that they couldn’t leave their port until they sorted the problem out. Then they found that their classification certificates had expired! Every port would send documents that would grant ships permission to pass through, but these documents had to be valid. Theirs were not.
