By comparing the girls’ genomes to other groups, Potter proved that the newly discovered “Ancient Beringians” and other Native Americans descended from a single founding population that split from other East Asians around 36,000 years ago. But unfortunately for Potter, there was still an ancient elephant in the room that needed to be addressed.
