Perhaps an implied sensation of touch contributes to pediophobia. A doll may seem human enough from a distance. But we all know the cold sensation that occurs when you touch its plastic hand. Mori drew a similar conclusion to prosthetic limbs in his essay, noting that “If someone wearing the hand in a dark place shook a woman’s hand with it, the woman would assuredly shriek!”
