People Reveal What Their Families Did That They Didn’t Realize Wasn’t Normal

My Family Is Racist

Sadly for me, it was being racist. My mother was born in 1944, so she grew up with it being ‘normal.’ I was born when she was 47, so I had no chance. My entire family is racist, and for the longest time, I thought it was normal.

I remember being in primary school and calling someone a chocolate cake and laughing about it because that’s how I was brought up. I’m 28 now, and I will always feel disgusted with how I was told it was normal. I do my best to try and show respect to everyone now, no matter the skin.
