A New Friend
When I was a student, my roommate and I lived next to an elderly lady called Nelly. One day, I went to go say hello and I eventually learned that she lived alone with no relatives nearby. It broke my heart, so every time I went grocery shopping, I would visit her first, collect her shopping list, and made sure to buy her things. We got into the habit of visiting her regularly for a cup of tea and to walk her dog for her. On her 90th birthday, we baked a cake and went to celebrate it with her – just me, her, and my housemate. Older people are precious, and I hope someone will do the same for me.
