The Dodgy Landlord
My roommates and I were going to move into a new apartment and literally, a week before our move-in date, the landlord/apartment manager approaches me and says, “Oops, I signed your lease over to someone else.” My roommates and I had already signed the lease contract to that apartment, but apparently, the “current” residents had priority. After talking to my roommate, we learned that the only available rooms left were in terrible condition with maggots and mold growing in it. The manager refused to deal with it. My roommates and I were distressed because we only had a few days to figure something out. I was complaining to my boss (who works in real estate), and she said that what my manager did was illegal. She called up the appropriate authorities and sorted everything out. The landlord was fired, the dirty apartment was renovated, and we got a month of free rent.
