Coding on My 1st and 3rd Heart Surgeries
I’ve had 4 heart surgeries, and during my 1st and 3rd, I coded. I had to be conscious so that my heart would react appropriately. The first time it was just nothingness. Then I woke up to someone saying, “we just lost you.” The second one wasn’t that easy. I woke up in a subway where everything was white. Tunnels were speeding by and when it came to a stop, there was only blackness. I heard a voice saying, “Are you ready to go?… We’re going now if you’re ready…” I was ready, but then something inside me snapped, so I didn’t leave.
