General Tom Thumb
One of the most famous of Barnum’s living curiosities was Tom Thumb. Born Charles Sherwood Stratton, he had a condition that prevented him from growing. Barnum discovered Stratton at the age of 4 and bought him from Stratton’s father. He paid three dollars a week for him.
