While some of the performers were performers by virtue of genetics, others had acts. Zazel (born Rosa Matilda Richter) was the first human cannonball. Launched from a springloaded gun, she ‘flew’ 20 feet. The stunt was incredibly dangerous, however. At 14, she missed the safety net, broke her neck, and spent the rest of her life in a back brace.
