AOL Data Leak
In 2006, AOL released a file with 20 million search keywords as well as the identifiable information of its 650,000 users. AOL apologized for their lapse in judgment and removed the data from their website. But by that point, the data had been copied and posted all over the internet. The scandal got so heated that AOL’s CTO, Maureen Govern, quit after two weeks.
