New Zealand Has a Hill With The Longest Place Name in the World

The 1,000-foot hill in New Zealand holds the Guinness World Record for the longest name in the world-Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu. It got its 85-character-long name from a native warrior Tamatea. After his brother died in a fight with another tribe, the legend says that he was coping with his loss by playing flute on this hill. The lengthy name translates to “the summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the slider, climber of mountains, the land-swallower who traveled about, played his nose flute to his loved one.”
