Chewbacca — Peter Mayhew
Mayhew was the perfect man to play as the beloved Chewie because he was 7’3”! And if you thought it was just a costume, you’re wrong! Mayhew had already crafted the Chewbacca body language that when one day when he fell ill, George Lucas had to replace him with a stand-in, but the other actor couldn’t match the original Chewie’s persona! Lucas scrapped the footage with the stand-in and waited for Mayhew to get better so they can continue filming.
