Sonny Barger called Thompson a liar, claiming he wasn’t telling the truth in his book. After about a year since Thompson met Hells Angels, he found himself in a challenging situation. In 1966, he witnessed one of the members beating his dog and wife and stepped in to break up the fight. “Heavy boots were punching into my ribs and jolting my head back and forth,” Thompson recalls. This went on until one of the other bikers pulled him out.
