In 1964, Hells Angels were falsely accused of criminal activity, and Thompson joined them to rebut claims made by the Lynch report. According to him, “The difference between the Hells Angels in the paper and the Hells Angels for real is enough to make a man wonder what newsprint is for.” In his Lynch report, attorney General Thomas C. Lynch stated every crime that the Hells Angels were accused of.
