When the doctors received the court order, they explained to Ryan what the procedure would entail. They detailed the steps involved in this procedure and highlighted that her death would not be instant. In fact, they added that as she is approaching her final minutes, she may appear to move or make a sound. However, they cautioned Ryan not to get his hopes up as a sudden movement does not mean that she will come out of the coma. It all happened so fast. Keeping A Record
Ryan kept a record of what the doctors told him would happen to Jill as she was removed off of life support. “Her whole upper torso would just kind of shift a little. And then the mumbling would start,” he recalled. Ryan could not deal with it. It was hard enough accepting the fact that he had just ordered the hospital to remove his wife off of life support; now, he had to see her in her last agonizing moments. His sadness would quickly turn to astonishment when the nurses would ask him to come see what was going on in Jill’s room.
