The Last Question
Meredith nodded her head and said that Rose was indeed correct about some of the artist’s history, and then she agreed that it may be possible that the painting was authentic, based on Rose’s grandmother’s whereabouts at the time. But she still had one more question to ask Rose, and the answer left the audience reeling. “Have you had it appraised before? Do you know if she had it appraised?” she asked gently. Rose thought carefully before replying, but what she said was scandalous.
