Leadbelly
Huddie William Ledbetter was a folk and blues pioneer who had been in and out of prison since 1915. In 1918, he killed one of his relatives during a fight over a woman and was sentenced to seven to 35 years in prison. He was pardoned in 1925, however, after he wrote a song to the governor requesting his freedom.
