Transparent (2014-2017): What was originally an awards-winning performance has become a bit of an albatross for Transparent, a show that has tried dutifully to cast all trans parts, apart from the one which got it commissioned, with trans actors. When revelations of Jeffrey Tambor’s sexual harassment of trans staff became part of the Me Too movement, it added another layer to Hollywood’s historic exploitation of trans stories for the success and enjoyment of CIS audiences. Here that went from literal to figurative, and Mr. Tambor has now resigned/been fired. He said when he won an Emmy that hopefully he will be the last CIS actor to play a trans part, and we can’t agree with him more, as we watch the door hit him on the way out.
