Albert Nobbs (2011): The real bright spot of this film is Janet McTeer’s performance as Hubert Page, a transman, who has made a happy life for himself with a wife in 19th century Dublin. He befriends Glenn’s Albert Nobbs, because of their shared life experience. You have to feel bad for Glenn, one of the greatest actresses of all time, getting upstaged in her own passion project by McTeer, but then again McTeer is just such a fantastic actress. Is the film great? No. Is the casting problematic, especially by 2011? Yes. Is McTeer incredible? She is.
