Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985): William Hurt won an Oscar for playing not only a trans woman, but a Latino. The 80s were as problematic in film as they were politically. Hurt is a great actor and the film is reasonably sympathetic for its time, but wow does that casting decision not age well. The film was based on a book, which has also been adapted as a straight play and musical.
