Dead Alive is directed by Academy Award winning Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson. A knowing riff on shlock and splatter films, it was a commercial failure on its initial release. Over the years, and with Jackson’s mainstream success, the film has gained a massive cult following. The story of a mom bit by a rabid monkey that turns her town into a zombie-infested wasteland, is as violent as it sounds.
