Maniac (1980)
This 1980 ‘video nasty’ is mostly boring, but some of the violence is just incredible. The scene where the maniac blows the head of a late-night copulator off through his windshield, is one of the best bits of violence and gore in cinema history. Gore maestro Tom Savini does the special effects and the famous scene, inspired by the Son of Sam, is perhaps his greatest single achievement.
