An Unexpected Reason
As Officer Milton would later recall, when he arrived at the store, the girl was hysterical. She was crying, screaming, and clearly in an emotionally wrecked state at the possibility of her being locked up. Through the tears, she spurted out to the officer why she had taken the shoes. When he found out, he was devastated.
