There has always been a debate between cat people and dog people about which animal is the best. Of course, no one has any metrics to base this on, so it is just a personal opinion. No matter if you are a dog person or a cat person, you have to agree, that both animals are capable of maturity and altruism, that humans can’t even comprehend. This is the story we are going to tell you today. The story has shocked the world, and made people feel a bit more grateful for their amazing pets.
The Zoo
It all started at the last place you would least expect to find our protagonist, in a zoo. It’s pretty clear that nobody would pay to go to a zoo for a cat, and even if there was a cat in the zoo, nobody would pay any attention to it, with all the exotic creatures that they have. But this cat was not an exhibit, it was more like a mascot of the place since her story went viral.
A Freezing Cat
One freezing morning, as Alice the zookeeper was going to work, she heard from the bushes, a very weak and muffled meowing sound. She wasn’t sure where to look, but as the meowing continued, she managed to find the source of the noise. It was a small ball of hair when she found her. A cat was freezing from the snow and seemed to be calling for help. Alice didn’t even give it a second thought before she acted swiftly.
Trying To Save The Cat
She took this little freezing creature and put her inside her coat. It was the only way she could think of keeping it warm. Thankfully she was working in a zoo, so many veterinaries could help the poor creature. She ran to the medical center of the zoo and called for help. The veterinaries did everything they could to help the kitten, but the situation was more crucial than Alice thought at the beginning.
A Desperate Situation
This cat has stayed out in the cold too much. It wasn’t sure whether she would live or not. There wasn’t anything that the doctors could do. They made it warm and gave it a bit of food and water. Now it was up to the cat if it was going to make it through the night or not. This cat was a fighter. It wasn’t going to give up so easily. Musya, the cat that kept surprising everyone was born.
Musya Is Safe
Musya made it through the night. She made it through a lot of nights actually and she started growing, under the watchful eye of Alice. She was a healthy and curious cat that wanted to explore. A small room wasn’t made for Musya, so it started trying to escape from the room to go out into the world.
Of course, Alice knew that the zoo is not a place for a cat to stroll around. Many animals could hurt her. But one day, the inevitable happened.
Musya Escapes
Musya got out, as Alice tried to enter the room. Just like that, she was gone. There was no way they could catch her. Alice was scared for Musyas life. The only thing she could do was trust her instincts. Cats are very smart and they are experts at surviving. Especially Musya had proven that she cannot be taken down so easily. And she would prove that once more.
Alice Is Scard
Two days had passed after Musyas escape and Alice was starting to lose hope. She had told everyone to keep an eye out for Musya, but it didn’t seem to work. It was like the cat had disappeared, and if in the zoo, it could only mean one thing. One thing that she didn’t even want to think about. It was making her sick. She was afraid that maybe Musya slipped into the wrong cage.
The Return
One day she heard a noise coming from the window. She looked and she could see a little paw there. Could it be? She tried to keep her expectations low, maybe it was a random cat, or maybe her imagination. But when she opened the window and Musya came in as nothing had happened, she burst into tears. She couldn’t believe that her beloved cat was back. Seemingly unhurt. This is when she decided something.
Musya Stays
Before Musya’s escape, Alice was trying to find her a place to stay, perhaps a family would like to adopt her. During these two days that she was gone, it became clear to Alice, that she couldn’t be separated from this cat. She was part of her life, and she had become too attached to it. She decided to keep the cat for her own. Musya had proven that she can survive in the zoo and that she like being with Alice. It was the best choice for everyone.
Getting To Know The Zoo
A few weeks went by, with Musya enjoying her stay at the zoo. She could eat as much as she wanted, and there were a lot of rodents she could chase. She had the freedom to stroll around the zoo like it was her kingdom and a lot of things to keep her entertained. As close as freedom as it gets. She was growing up to become a very smart and loving cat. But there was about to be some trouble in paradise.
A Change Happens
She started becoming cranky and distant. She didn’t approach Alice for cuddles and pets. That was quite surprising for Musya. She always loved being touched. Although it was a warning sign for Alice, she didn’t take it too seriously. Maybe that was just her character, after all, cats are famous for being capricious. She should have paid more close attention to Musya’s behavior.
Musya Is Lost
One day, Musya didn’t come back from her usual stroll. Even though Alice was a bit worried, she knew that Musya can survive in the zoo. She was very smart and agile, so there was nothing that could hurt her. In the end, she just decided to wait until she comes back on her own. Sooner or later the cat should be back, at least that’s what she thought. But this wasn’t the case this time. Something no one would expect was about to happen.
Alice Waits Patiently
One day passed and still, Musya hadn’t appeared. Alice was thinking if she should go out to look for her. She talked about it with her colleagues but they told her that it would be better to give her a bit of time. She is probably around exploring the area, nothing suspicious for a cat. If there was a real need to look for the cat, they would help her find her.
Another Day Passes
Two days passed, and Alice was starting to get nervous. The same thoughts she had when Musya took her first stroll started coming back. What if something had happened to her? What if an animal had harmed her? She couldn’t handle all these thoughts. But she had to. There was nothing else she could do. But on the third day, something would push Alice to her limits.
The Rain Comes
On the third day, there was a thunderstorm. The rain was pouring making everything wet, and there were a lot of thunders. Alice was imagining her poor cat outside, unprotected from the wind and the rain, probably scared and alone. She couldn’t take it anymore. No matter how much faith she had in the cat's survival skills, she couldn’t let her outside in the rain. It was time to act, and try to find her. What she would find, she could never have expected it.
Call For Help
She notified everyone in the zoo to come and help her. It was dark outside, so they got flashlights and raincoats and they got out to look for Musya. They looked everywhere. Wherever a cat could fit, they went for it. It was very hard to see anything under the pouring rain, but they knew they couldn’t give up. They couldn’t let this cat outside in the cold and rain. She would get sick for sure. Also, another thought was haunting their minds.
Fear
What if something had happened to Musya? It seems very unusual that a cat wouldn’t come back to its house to be protected from this rain. Everybody knows that cats are famous for not liking water. What could be keeping Musya outside with this weather? With all the dangerous animals around, they were afraid that the worst had happened. Well, something had happened, but it wasn’t what they thought.
Is That Musya?
As they were looking around, and all hope seemed to be fading away, they spotted something moving between some bushes. Alice was there with her heart going a million miles an hour. She was scared of what she could find. If it was Musya, why wasn’t it coming out when she heard the people calling her? She approached the bush, trying to find where the noise is coming from. What she found was something she would never forget for all her life.
What Is On Musya?
She flashed her light at the base of the bush and this is where she finally saw her. Musya was there, seemingly unfazed by the rain around her. The happiness Alice felt could not be described. Her beloved cat was alive and well. She needed nothing more than that. She got much more than that when she noticed that Musya, was not alone in the bushes. Something seemed to be crawling around her.
A Surpirse
In the beginning, Alice was scared. She was afraid that something was hurting Musya. She couldn’t even understand what she was seeing. Something was mixed with Musya’s fur. Slowly she realized what was happening. There were a few kittens nursing from Musya. That’s why she was behaving differently, she was pregnant. But that wasn’t all that was on Musya, there was something else on her.
8 Little Balls
Eight little figures that Alice couldn’t figure out, were also on Musya. She got closer to examine what these things were. Even though she had gotten pretty close, she still couldn’t understand what was crawling on Musya. After a bit of examining, she found something that shocked her, and everyone around her. The entire zoo was soon to be in turmoil.
Hedgehogs
There were eight baby hedgehogs on Musya. They seemed to be trying to get warm by being close to her. Musya didn’t seem to mind the thorns they had on their back. On the contrary, she was trying to keep all of them safe and warm close to her body. Once Alice understood this, she was amazed and proud of her cat. But there was no time to admire her. There were more important things to be done.
Getting Them Inside
Alice put Musya with all her babies, including the hedgehog ones in a box with blankets and took them to the veterinary of the zoo. The veterinary couldn’t believe what he was seeing. A cat taking care of her kittens together with eight small hedgehogs. That was something that he had never seen before. They were skeptical about what to do. Even though the situation was very sweet and everyone admired Musya, there was a problem.
Musya Is Safe
The spikes of the hedgehogs might not hurt Musya, but they were putting in danger the kittens. So they made the hard choice, to separate the mother from her adopted babies. Musya was exhausted, so she couldn’t complain about someone taking away her babies. It was something that had to be done. They put the hedgehogs in a separate box, and let Musya with her kittens relax. When they came back, they could believe what they had found.
Musya The Mother
Musya had taken her kittens to the other box, picked up each one of them, and moved them to the other box. There she was lying down, with all her babies on her, like the proud mother she was. It had become clear, that you cannot separate a mother cat from her babies. So they made the controversial decision, to let them be together with Musya. They didn’t know if it was the right choice, but it felt like it. They were surprised by the results.
Adopting
It turned out that Musya was taking care of her kittens and the hedgehogs at the same time. Without feeling any pain from their pikes. Perhaps the hedgehogs were seeing Musya as their mother, so they didn’t pike her at all. It is a testimony to the love and understanding that these creatures have inside them. A mother immediately seeing babies of another species as her own.
A Mystery
But where did Musya find these hedgehog babies? Where did they come from? With a little bit of investigating, they soon found out what had happened. Earlier that week, a hedgehog had been killed by a lawnmower. They believe that this was their mother. So the babies left alone, was more than Musya could handle. So, she took them in as her own.
A New Home
Alice created a small house for the hedgehogs next to the room where Musya was staying to keep the family together. As the days passed, it became normal for Musya to take care of all of her babies. The hedgehogs became big healthy despite being raised by a cat, or we should say because they were raised by this loving cat. Of course, the people on the internet reacted as expected.
People’s Reaction
From the people that already love cats, they are ready to create a statue for Musya. There could be no greater proof that cats are better than humans. But even the ones that are more skeptical towards cats, due to their more “free” nature, are praising this cat as a pride to her species, and putting her at the same level as dogs.
A Special Cat
Everybody that read this story, felt moved by how selfless this cat had been, even after giving birth, she didn’t hesitate to take under her wings these babies in need.
