Zombies are everywhere you look in pop culture these days, but this word “zombie” originally comes from a West African voodoo cult, where it was the name of a powerful snake-god who was capable of both wonderful and terrible acts. One of those acts was bringing the dead back to life, which is the aspect that solidified the term in the English language to mean “undead.”
