A Big Decision

The sewer was dark and damp and very dirty — certainly not a good environment for the babies to be in. Judging by their cries, the firefighters could tell the animals were very young, almost helpless. Time was of the essence and their prolonged exposure to such dire conditions only threatened their safety even more.
When they finally reached the animals, they rejoiced seeing that they were still alive. However, it was freezing cold and they needed instant help. They still didn’t give up on the thought that their mother could just be in the area looking for food or some help for her children. If they take them out, would their mother be looking for them? How would she find her babies if she does come back? What’s the best thing to do for these poor little creatures?
