Hebblethwaite was eventually diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis, an immune system disease in which a type of white blood cell builds up in the esophagus as a reaction to certain foods, causing regular inflammation and injury. It’s a chronic disease that can be treated by “dietary therapy, medication or dilation (stretching of the esophagus).”
