John McCain And the Viet Cong
Before trying his hand in politics, former US Senator John McCain was once a US Navy officer. He served in the Vietnam War and got captured by North Vietnamese soldiers in 1967. The aircraft he was riding was hit by Communist ground fire so he had no choice but to use his parachute. McCain got pulled out of Truc Bach Lake near Hanoi. Along with 108 other prisoners of war, he was finally released in 1973. the military-man-turned-politician occasionally visited the site with his family.
