Babies Out In the Cold

Believe it or not, letting infants sleep in the open air used to be a popular tradition for Russians. Back in 1958, a set of newborns at a maternity hospital in Moscow were even photographed as they slept outside. This picture would probably give modern-day people the chills. This seemingly odd routine was widely practiced in Russia back then to prepare the babies for the country’s cold weather. Parents and guardians dressed the little ones in a hat and a pair of stockings before letting them sleep in -10 degrees Celsius weather.
