Historic Images That Are Rarely Seen

The Quagga

Wikimedia Commons

This historic photograph, without a doubt, looks like an edited version of a zebra and a horse combined. However, this picture is surprisingly real, and a species called Quagga did exist. It was in 1870 when the majestic mare was photographed in London Zoo. Sadly for animal lovers, this South African mammal became extinct in the late 19th century. The quagga is the southernmost cline or ecotype of the plains zebra. It got its unique name from the Khoekhoe language.
