Male Gharial Bonds With His Babies

It’s not every day that a freshwater crocodile gets photographed carrying his offspring on his back. This is what exactly happened to an endangered alligator in India. He could pass as “the dad of the year,” if only he was not a carnivorous reptile. This male gharial is over 12-feet long and more than 2,000 pounds heavy. Instead of chasing after his prey, he uses his long, thin snouts to detect vibrations in the water. The wild-looking creature only leaves the water to make his nest or bask in the sun.
