Mercury On the New York Central Railroad

PatLohmann/Twitter

These days it can be hard to picture a bunch of railroad streamliners occupying the New York Central Railroad. During the early 20th century though, this was very common in major cities like New York and Chicago. Henry Dreyfuss was the designer behind these Art Decos. The Mercury was photographed passing by Syracuse City Hall in 1936. It was the one-quarter size of the original and was created to show riders and viewers the speed and efficiency of railroad streamliners.
