The Montparnasse Derailment

As early as the 19th century, there have already been reports of transportation-related accidents. These include the Montparnasse Derailment, which took place in Paris in 1896. Unfortunately, the Granville–Paris Express faced some technical problems during one of its scheduled trips. It all started when the driver decided to gun it since they were already running late. The air brake failed to stop so the train ended up crashing through a wall. One of the 131 passengers passed away while six of them were injured.
