The Heroic Guerrilla Fighter
This iconic image sure does look like it was taken on the set of a big-budget war film starring a Hollywood actor, but this is actually the 1960 image called “Guerrillero Heroico” or Heroic Guerrilla Fighter. The main subject is the infamous revolutionary Che Guevara. When Guevara passed away, the Cuban regime finally realized his worth. They popularized the beret-clad fighter and turned him into an enduring symbol of martyrdom for the movement. His face was all over newspapers, magazines, and even soft drinks.
