Scottish Medieval Maiden c. 14th Century

Edinburgh City Council

This medieval female was found in a communal grave with men, women and children in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2009 in preparation for building the Edinburgh Trams. It is unclear whether or not their deaths were linked to the plague that consumed Europe from the 6th to the 17th centuries. Forensic scientists examined the young woman’s body along with 400 other corpses.
