One of my clients came in asking for $60, 000 to send to her boyfriend who loved overseas. They had never met but he desperately needed the money and would repay her when he came home after serving with the Marines. He told her his papers were mixed up, which froze his account, but that she shouldn’t worry because he was retiring next month. She got the loan and I always wondered whether she realized she was being played.
