The church was built by Dominican monks in the town of Quechula in Mexico back in the 1770s. But in the 1960s, the Mexican government placed a dam in the Grijalva River that submerged the church. Then, in 2002, the water levels dropped so much in the Nezahualcoyotl reservoir, that tourists and visitors were able to walk around the sunken church’s remains.
