The city of Heracleion, to the Greeks, also known as Thonis by the Egyptians, was believed to have been a myth, but in 2000, it was discovered in Aboukir Bay under 46 meters (150 ft) of water near Egypt, after being buried under mud and sand for 1,200 years, which preserved the artifacts.
