In 2012, Beatie filed for divorce from Nancy. They were married in Arizona, and a judge ruled that a divorce could not be granted. In their eyes, since Beatie’s gave birth, he must be seen as a woman, and since same-sex marriage was not legal at the time, their marriage was never valid. Eventually, this decision was overturned, they succesfully divorced, and Beatie remarried his longtime girlfriend Amber.
