The Nod of Understanding
I’m not the window washer, but I had an interaction with one, and it’s something that I won’t forget any time soon. I lived in a high-rise condo and sometimes, the window cleaners go up the side of the building where my bathroom window was. After a crazy night out, I ended up needing to take a really spicy dump. So, I opened up my small window and sat down on my toilet, hungover and with my eyes closed thinking about where I went wrong in my life choices that lead me to this moment where death seemed like a reasonable alternative. All of a sudden, my window closes. The window cleaner needed to close it to go up higher. On their slow ascent, they saw me destroying my toilet. We made eye contact and I gave him the universal ‘nod’ of understanding. He gave me one back.
