Delphine LaLaurie
In the 1800s, New Orleans socialite Delphine LaLaurie reportedly chased a slave girl with a whip until she fell off the roof. The other account was of a suicidal cook chained to the stove that authorities determined had been badly beaten and started a fire to end his suffering. Angry neighbors broke into her slave chamber and discovered living and dead slaves in deplorable conditions. Does her story sound familiar? She was brought to life by Kathy Bates on “American Horror Story”. LaLaurie is also known as the world’s most savage mistress.
