Eleanor Roosevelt
Roosevelt changed the role of First Lady in America, carrying as much political knowledge and power as her husband, F.D.R. The American matriarch worked for the League of Women Voters, stood against racial discrimination and dedicated her time to America’s poverty issues. She was a delegate for the U.N. and helped to write the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
