Queen Elizabeth I
The daughter of Henry VIII and Ann Boleyn (who he beheaded) used her power to finesse England’s state religion as the country battled between Catholicism and Protestantism. The Queen established England as a Protestant country and gave herself the title of head of the church. Her reign was so important that we refer to this period in history as the Elizabethan era.
