Joan of Arc
At the age of 17, Joan of Arc disguised herself as a male soldier while she journeyed through France in her pursuit to ask permission from the King to serve in the war against Britain. She led the French army and fought the Hundred Years’ War candidly as a woman but was was charged with cross-dressing and heresy and was burnt at the stake at 19 years of age.
