Louisa May Alcott

Alcott is best known for her novel, “Little Women” which she published under her own name. However, when the author wanted to write stories of a more darker content such as gothic thrillers, a female moniker would never do. Alcott signed the pen name, A.M. Bernard for her works like “Behind a Mask” which were deemed too “un-lady-like” for 19th century literature.
